The Land Rover started life in 1948, originally used by Rover as the name for one specific vehicle and has developed into a brand all of its own. Over the years Land Rover have developed many different models and now focus on 4x4 models. 

Although the brand stems from the original 1948 model Land Rover, the company, only really came into existence in 1978. Since then the company has fallen under many different umbrella companies from the Rover Company, Leyland Motor Company and Ford. 

The first design was influenced greatly by an American made World War 2 jeep the chief designer at the Rover Company used one summer at his holiday home in wales and since then has become a stable in British industry.
